Brendan Dempsey - Regulatory Affairs Manager

What's your job?

I'm the Regulatory Affairs Manager for Telecom Wholesale. My primary responsibility is pulling together the numerous submissions and reports Wholesale provides to the Commerce Commission relating its Standard Terms Determinations. It takes a talented and specialised team to deliver to the Commission's requirements - lawyers, technical experts, provisioning gurus, commercial and regulatory people.

What did you do before you arrived at Telecom Wholesale?

Before moving to my current role within Wholesale, I worked at the Commerce Commission in their Telecommunication Branch. My primary responsibility was, surprise surprise, working with the industry to produce various Standard Terms Determinations - UCLL, UCLL Co-location and UBA.

What attracted you to working here?

In my time at the Commission, dealing with a range of industry players, I was continually impressed with Telecom's people, the way they prepared and handled themselves in tough regulatory situations.

What excites you about working for Telecom Wholesale?

Telecom Wholesale punches above its weight. As a relatively small bunch of people we achieve a great deal - and that comes down to skill, experience and commitment. It's a good environment to be working in (most of the time!).

What would you tell someone looking to join us?

Be prepared to work. Be prepared to be thrown in the deep end. Ask lots of questions. Build strong relationships. If you can do all that - you'll enjoy yourself.

What did you do before you arrived at Telecom Wholesale?

I was Product Manager for the Windows Client Portfolio at Microsoft NZ.

What attracted you to working here?

After holding previous roles within Telecom Retail I was attracted by the vibrant atmosphere at Telecom Wholesale and the focus on customer experience

What excites you about working for Telecom Wholesale?

Being involved and seen as the leader in a dynamic, changing and competitive environment.

What would you tell someone looking to join us?

Great people, striving to do their best for the customer, great atmosphere to work in.

Blair Galpin - Manager, Business and Market Intelligence

What's your job?

Hmm...hard to describe, the team looks at a variety of things; financials for projects and network spend relating to DSL ports and the Ethernet interface roll out; business intelligence (reviewing the internal information we have); and, market intelligence (collecting external intelligence).  I get to do bits of everything.

What did you do before you arrived at Telecom Wholesale?

I worked in Telecom retail in charge of a small team of analysts. We worked with the fixed line marketing teams covering residential, small business and corporate customers. Prior to that I was with Carter Holt Harvey looking at forests, sawmills, MDF plants, packaging projects etc...

What attracted you to working here?

A combination of factors - I wanted a change after almost two and a half years in retail; I felt there was a good team in Wholesale I could learn from; I knew it would be an exciting place to be based on all the change predicted in this area (and all came true); and finally, I knew it would be full of opportunities to develop for years to come.

What excites you about working for Telecom Wholesale?

The diversity of issues and the fact it is a relatively small team meaning you can get involved in so many different and exciting things.

What would you tell someone looking to join us?

Have a look, ignore the news report, Wholesale is a great place to be, exciting and full of change, don't come here if you are looking to do the same thing day in and day out.

Fleur D'Souza - Undertakings and Separation Implementation Manager

What's your job?

Manager, Undertakings and Separation Implementation Manager (SIM) for Wholesale

What did you do before you arrived at Telecom Wholesale?

I was a Legal Counsel at TelstraClear

What attracted you to working here?

I had heard a lot about the Wholesale business and knew some of the people working here. It is a highly successful business with fantastic, talented and dedicated people.

What excites you about working for Telecom Wholesale?

Wholesale is a highly competitive telecommunications business and there is a great cooperative spirit in the place - it epitomises the word "co-opertition". Everyone works together to achieve great outcomes for customers so we can continue to grow our success.

My role involves making sure that everyone understands how we meet the Undertakings. The people in Wholesale are highly motivated to ensure that we meet our regulatory timeframes but also dedicated to achieving great value for our customers and our business. By truly understanding what we need to do to meet the Undertakings everyone can get on with doing a great job for customers.

What would you tell someone looking to join us?

I would say that you if you want to join one of the highest performing teams in NZ then Wholesale is the place for you. It is a place that will give anyone the opportunity to really excel while working with a fantastic group of people.
