Local Peering

Local Peering allows service providers to interconnect with the Telecom network to enable the exchange of internet traffic within New Zealand between their end-users and Telecom Broadband customers.

This permits service providers to more effectively separate and manage their internet traffic, and keep local internet traffic "local" rather than having to use a centrally routed, nationally priced service.  There will eventually be 29 internet traffic points of interconnect (POIIs) around New Zealand.

Key Benefits

Key benefits of Local Peering to service providers include:

  • No charge for local traffic exchange
  • Not carrying local traffic to a distand handover point and back again
  • Transport pricing that is appropriate for the distance carried
