Dialogue Executive Briefings
Telecom Wholesale holds regular briefings for customers to discuss strategic direction of the product portfolio and systems. These events are videoed and presentations are placed on the website following the briefing.
3 June 2010 - Variation 4 Request
With Telecom's recent announcement on seeking a fourth Variation to our Operational Separation Undertakings, Telecom Wholesale hosted an Executive briefing for our customers and other industry stakeholders to provide an update on what the impact of this request might mean for the planned industry migration from legacy services and systems.
Ralph Chivers - Head of Government and Industry Relations (Telecom Group) - discussed the background to the Variation request 4 and detailed the three requests that are being sought. We have asked that this request be treated with urgency.
Ralph discussed the formal process that the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) will run in order to consider this request which will include the opportunity for you to provide feedback directly to them.

Rosalie Nelson from the research organisation IDC provided an independent view of the impacts that the rollout of UFB might mean. Whether or not Telecom participates in thr build of the UFB network, this programme has the potential to radically reshape the Telecommunications industry in New Zealand. Rosalie described the potential "structural separation" of the industry - not just Telecom - and the potential impacts that this might have on the industry structure, current and future investment plans, revenue opportunities and profitability.

The acting CEO for Wholesale - Nick Clarke - provided a review of the topline feedback that we have received to-date on each of the three Variation requests. We are open to further feedback as you consider the impacts that a pause in the current transformation plan may have on your business and these can be fed back to us via your Telecom Wholesale account manager.

While the request for a variation, if granted, will reshape the industries plans to roll out IT capabilities and support systems, Telecom Wholesale's vision - to improve end-user customer experience and provide you more control by putting more tools in your hands - remains unchanged.
Tim Armitage - Manager of Future Operational Capability - outlined what work continues regardless of the variation. He then discussed some options for additional improvement that we could consider in the absence of the planned FMO Broadband and Data capability that is the subject of the Variation Request.
